This week’s challenge!

Connect with yourself!

There are so many ways to practice connecting with yourself! Here are a few of my favorites:
  • Meditate (Even just 5 minutes a day!)
  • Sit-spot (sitting in nature daily for 20 minutes or more)
  • Journal
  • Create (painting, poem, songwriting, etc)
  • Yoga
  • Dance
  • Self-pleasure
  • Self-care (take a bath, get a pedicure, get a massage)
Treat yourself to one or more of these practices daily. While you may not notice an immediate change, the effect will become profound in a few months time. Heck, I don’t even recognize the person I once was just a year ago. The process may not be easy, but it’s always worth it.

Which practices do you use to connect with yourself? Have you experienced any challenges in connecting with yourself? What does connecting with yourself mean to you? Share your thoughts and connect with like-minded women over at the closed Facebook group Women Untethered.

This week’s challenge!

Get outside!

I don’t mean take a walk from your house to your car. I mean, deliberately spend at least 10-15 minutes outside in the presence of nature. It doesn’t have to be woods or even a park, just anywhere you can find a patch of grass or even one lone tree.

Even city dwellers can find a bit of nature among their setting. Perhaps you have plants out on your windowsill. Well, then open the window, grab your cup of tea, and commune with those plants. Or, perhaps step outside and just begin to note how many birds, bees, and other critters you see flitting about.

Note how being in nature’s presence makes you feel. Do you feel more open? Do you sense the peace? Are you agitated? Whatever you feel, allow it without judgment. It’s all a part of the healing process.

Have some questions? Need guidance or just someone to witness your experience? Head on over to the closed, non-judgmental Facebook group Women Untetheredand share.

This week’s challenge!

Shift direction!

Write down whatever area of your life in which you are feeling stuck, lost, or unmotivated. Be honest with yourself!

Write down all the attempts you have tried to change this particular area of your life.

Below are a list of suggestions on what to do from here. Feel free to try one, two, or all of them.

  • Burn the original list of things you have tried
  • Write a list of new things you have yet to try
  • Try one item on the new list
  • Say “f*** it” and burn the new list
  • Write a list of all things that currently make you happy
  • Do one of those things that makes you happy right now
  • Do one ‘happy list’ thing every day
  • Only do things that are on your happy list and forget about trying to change at all
Which one of these items makes your body feel like it’s free? Which items make your heart sing? Perhaps a new opportunity to shift direction came to you while reading this?

Perhaps if you are so entrenched in your circle of pain none of this is resonating with you. That is ok. Breathe into each of the suggestions and see if any of them release the tension in your shoulders just a little bit. Sometimes, it’s all about the baby steps.

Which suggestions resonate the most for you? Which tools have you tried to successfully shift direction? Do you have new suggestions that could help others in the same boat? Visit the supportive, closed group Women Untethered over on Facebook and share.

This week’s challenge!

Play!

It’s time to return to our ancestral roots by incorporating play back into our lives. I don’t mean the occasional girls night out or once a year vacation. I am talking about daily play.

Grab a piece of paper and a pen (or a notes app on your phone). Set your timer for 5 minutes. In that 5 minutes, see how many games you can write down that you used to play as a child. Go ahead, I will wait.

Now, review that list. What games can you incorporate in your life right now? Which ones wouldn’t require too much extra time or money? Which ones make your body sing at the thought of doing them again?

It’s time to go do them. Today. Right now. If dancing was a game you played, crank up the music and dance all by yourself. Let loose and allow your body to feel the music. If singing is your thing, find somewhere where you can belt the songs out at the top of your lungs without feeling judged. If running is your thing (yes! some people find running to be very playful), lace up those sneakers.

There is no protocol to incorporating play back in your life. Do it at your own pace. If the only thing you want to do today is buy yourself some new paint brushes, then do that. If you’ve always wanted to go ziplining and have the money and time for it, what are you waiting for?

As anything, this is a practice. Some days you will remember, others you won’t. Some days you will feel angry and not have any desire to play, then don’t. (although play would be the greatest antidote for that…) Some days the most you may be able to accomplish is to think about a new way to play. The important thing is to begin making play a priority, not something to be done when you can find the time. You make the time.

I would love to know what play looks like for you. Head on over to Women Untethered on facebook and show off pictures of you playing, share your artwork, or just let us know what style of play helps free your soul.

Take one small action step.

What is one small step you can take toward the future that you desire?

Perhaps you can do a 3 day detox for your health? Begin scouring the want ads for a new job or reach out to a recruiter? Sit down to devote 15 minutes every day to write? Romance yourself with a bubble bath (candles and wine included!)? Play a game you loved as a kid?

Whatever small step you choose to take, come share it over at the Women Untethered FaceBook Group. Your small step may be just what another fellow WU member needs for inspiration!

Become aware.

This week, write a list of all your self-limiting thoughts, beliefs, and projections. You are likely not aware of most of them. And, you can’t change what you don’t know needs changing.

Start a list somewhere you will pass by often and keep a pen or pencil nearby. Once you begin noticing your limiting patterns, more will begin to surface. Write them down as you become aware.

Do not focus on changing anything yet. Just create awareness. Then, head on over to the Women Untethered FaceBook Group and share your limiting beliefs or any other awareness that has come to you.
